Dennis Ramey

Dennis Keith Ramey, age 79, died on Friday, November 24, 2023, at his home in Wellington, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was born on March 11, 1944, to Keith W. and Denzil (McCammon) Ramey in Wichita.

Dennis graduated from Wellington High School in 1962 and attended Kansas State University for one year. He joined the United States Air Force in February of 1964 and was stationed in Denver, CO, followed by postings in Melbourne, Fla., and Bremerhaven, Germany. He used his GI bill to get both a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in Economics from Rollins University in Winter Park, FL. He retired in 1984 while living in Colorado.

After leaving the Air Force, he worked in program management for the space industry. His work in the defense industry led him to southern Maryland from 1988-2005. Dennis was an active member of the local Republican party and was elected to the St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee in 1998. He and his family returned to Kansas in 2005.

Dennis was first married to Ruth Ann (Cox) in Wellington. Together, they shared two children, Maurya and Greg.

Later, Dennis and Victoria (Gonzalez) met in Detroit while he was there on business. Soon after, they were married in Georgetown, Colorado, on June 27, 1987. Together, they shared twin boys, Keith and Matthew.

Dennis found his passion in his final career – teaching. He was an adjunct economics professor for Baker University, National American University and Cowley College. He loved being outdoors, camping, and fishing. Dennis enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandkids, reading and woodworking.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, and friend who will be sorely missed by many.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Denzil Ramey, and sister, Corlyn Ramey.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Ramey; daughter, Maurya Ord and her husband Craig of Brighton, Colorado; son, Gregory Ramey and his wife Julie of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Keith Ramey and his partner Rita of Wellington; son, Matthew Ramey of Arlington, Washington; sister, Andrea Day of Wellington; granddaughters: Jessica Ord Kimmerly (Joe) Rebekah Ramey, and Harper Ramey; grandsons: Derick Bubnich (Sandra), Patrick Ramey, Mark Ramey, Grady Ramey, Tristan Ord; and great-grandchildren: Lucille Garcia, Violet Garcia, Flora Kimmerly.

A memorial service for Dennis will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, at the Wellington Methodist Church in Wellington. This will be followed by a reception at Trigger Guard from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Kiwanis Club of Wellington for the Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
