Do not feed the foxes at Century Park, aka Lions Club Park, in Wellington
Submitted to Sumner Newscow — Recently it was brought to the Wellington Police Department’s attention that there is a family of foxes, consisting of a momma fox and several babies living in and around Century Park, located on “G†Street . It was formerly called Lions Club Park.
“As the story of this family of foxes was told I became a little concerned hearing that we have several Wellington citizens feeding the foxes,” said Tracy Heath, Wellington Police Chief. “According to the report, as the feeding has progressed, the baby foxes have lost some of their fear toward people.”
By feeding the foxes humans could be causing more harm than good, overfeeding to the point where they forget to forage naturally or feeding food that isn’t good for them, Heath said.
Feeding wildlife could lead to negative interactions with people, he said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to remind citizens the foxes are wild animals and not to feed them,” Heath said. “We certainly don’t want them to become a nuisance. Should the feeding continue the city would have no choice but to relocate the foxes.”
