Due to labor shortages, Ottaway Carnival Amusements will have reduced number of carnival rides

Sumner Newscow report — The following is a message from Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Valerie Earl:

———

“The 121st Kansas Wheat Festival is July 6 – 10.

It’s back!  The Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB, along with the Kansas Wheat Festival Committee is busy planning for the 121st Kansas Wheat Festival sponsored by BNSF Railroad. We are excited to see many of our favorite events and activities back this year including:

  • street dances;
  • parade;
  • car show;
  • arts and crafts fair;
  • food trucks;
  • and of course, carnival rides.

Covid-19 presented many challenges, especially to the carnival industry. Ottaway Carnival Amusements has been a longstanding part of the Kansas Wheat Festival. Unfortunately, they are having a difficult time acquiring experienced labor for their events to be done safely.

Therefore, at a minimum, for the 121st Kansas Wheat Festival, we can look forward to the “Freak Out” ride that sends you high in the sky while twisting and turning. There will also be the newer “Flying Jumbo” elephant ride. Of course, there will be the piping hot funnel cakes with your favorite toppings! Ottaway is still working daily to acquire the valued assistance they need to provide additional safe entertainment for our event.

We are so grateful for the opportunities we have this year!

Be sure to follow the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB website (wellingtonkschamber.com) & the Kansas Wheat Festival Facebook page for all the events to be listed with the official program.
