Eva Marie (Baker) Czaplinski, 95, Wellington: May 3, 1931 – June 5, 2026
Eva Marie Baker was born on May 3, 1931, in rural Wellington, KS, to Wilbur and Helen (McClaskey) Baker. Eva passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at her son’s home in Salina, KS, at the age of 95.
Eva attended Avon Country School and later Wellington High School through the 11th grade. She received her GED and went on to get her LPN nurse’s license in Ponca City, OK.
On August 27, 1947, she was married to Ralph E. Jarboe in Wellington, KS. To this union were born two children, Ralph E. Jarboe Jr. and Linda Marie Jarboe. After a divorce, she married Burton James Czaplinski on February 18, 1964. To this union were born three children, Larry Ray Czaplinski, Brenda Louise Czaplinski, and Vanetta Dee Czaplinski.
Eva worked as a nurse aide, cook in the school cafeteria in Wellington, and several other odd jobs. As an LPN nurse, she worked and drove to the Ponca City Hospital and eventually worked at the Sumner County Hospital.
Eva was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wellington, KS. She enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts of America and with her son Ralph in Sea Scouts. Eva attended two Jamborees in 2005 and 2010. She was also awarded the Silver Beaver Award. Eva was an avid crocheter who always had yarn and a hook in her hands. She crocheted over 50 flags that she gave away and a very large picture of the Last Supper for her son Ralph.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Helen Baker; husband, Burton Czaplinski; and her grandson, Timothy Allen Jarboe.
Eva is survived by her children: Ralph (Marie) Jarboe of Kansas; Larry (Kim) Czaplinski of Texas; Linda Wilson of Kansas; Brenda (Shane) Dry of Kansas; Vanetta (Mark) Hedrick of Kansas; stepdaughters, Reba and Sonda; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
A visitation for Eva is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 5 p.m. at Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas, 67152.
A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be given to Good Shepherd Hospice or the 8 and 40 Nursing Scholarship. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
