McCreary died peacefully on December 4 in Kansas City, Mo. His obituary can be found here.

The governor ordered flags to be at half-staff from sunup to sundown on Saturday in Harper and Sumner counties.

“Former Representative McCreary’s storied legacy is that of a dedicated public servant,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “He chose to serve his community, state, and country in every role he held throughout his life – as a paratrooper and Staff Sergeant in the military, an entrepreneur, a grocer, and finally, a legislator. My condolences go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

McCreary’s obituary says he served in the U.S. Air Force before owning three supermarkets, which he sold in 1994.

He then served in the Kansas House from 1997 to 2006 as a representative in the 80th District, where he was known for his conservative values and community dedication.

His services will be held on Saturday, December 13, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cornejo Funeral Home Chapel, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, KS, 67152, followed by burial at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
