Sumner Newscow report — Jaycee Schettler was crowned the 2016 Duchess of Wellington Friday night during the homecoming ceremony at halftime of the Wellington-Scott City game. Carson LeGrand was her escort.
She received the crown during the halftime ceremony. This year’s attendants included: Kayma Brand, Brecken Lawrence, Leanne Neal and Mallory Barker.
Schettler is the daughter of Sonja and Kevin Schettler. She is a member of the First Methodist Church and has been involved in NHS, Life of an Athlete, Track and field, cross country, and powerlifting. Outside of school Jaycee enjoys 4-H, Kansas Draft Horse and Mule Association Representative, Hayesville saddle club, American quarter horse association, and spending time with her boyfriend Jared Shieldsl.
Honors in which Jaycee has received are three time state qualifier for track and field, 2 time state medalist for track and field, 2 time league 200m and 100m champion. State powerlifting bench press champion, 2 time Kansas 4h horse state fair hunter hack over fences champion, Youth draft horse driving and riding champion, 2 time Haysville saddle club barrel racing champion, and Sumner County fair champion showman. Jaycee’s future plans are to attend the University of Nebraska to run track and obtaining an exercise physiology degree. Jaycee is being escorted by Carson Legrand.
