Julian Cornejo is named 2016 Duke of Wellington
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Julian Cornejo, the son of Jamie and Maria Cornejo, was crowned the 2016 Duke of Wellington.
Cornejo was crowned Friday night at the annual Duke Ceremony held after the Wellington-Andale basketball games. The other Duke candidates were Wesley Gilmore, Connor Phelps, Jared Shields, and Nate Ybarra. The child attendants were Tegan Buck, daughter of Tyler and Kaitlin Buck; and Miller Renn, the son of Katie and Austin Renn. (See photo gallery of ceremony here.)
Cornejo is a member of the St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church. He has been involved in the National Honor Society for three years, a State Thespian member for three years. Recently, he was named best overall actor for two years in the Wellington High School theater, third degree Knight of Knights of Columbus and is on the Principal’s Honor Roll.
Other activities Cornejo is involved in include: CYM Board member for four years, Community Theater for eight years, and Wellington High School theater for four years. Cornejo’s future plans are going to Cowley Community College with a major in performance arts. After Cowley, he hopes to go to New York and become a cast member of Saturday Night Live.
