Kanokla kicks off construction on high-speed fiber Internet project, south of Wellington
Sumner Newscow report — Kanokla is excited to announce that construction has officially begun on its latest fiber expansion project, bringing gig-capable Internet to more than 140 rural homes and farms south of Wellington. This $2.6 million project was made possible through a Broadband Acceleration Grant (BAG4) from the Kansas Department of Commerce Office of Broadband Development and Kanokla’s own investment.
Kanokla has partnered with RVW Engineering for project design and MasTec Construction for fiber deployment. Route staking was completed last fall, and mainline fiber construction is now underway. The first homes are expected to be connected by summer 2025. The project is scheduled for full completion by December 2025. It’s a busy timeline, but Kanokla officials are excited about what it means for their customers.
Residents in the project area can connect to Kanokla’s fiber network with no installation cost. This high-speed fiber service will provide ultra-fast and reliable internet that will support your professional needs (work-from-home meetings and remote learning), your health needs (telehealth), and your entertainment needs (streaming and gaming).
Jill Kuehny, CEO of Kanokla, commented on the impact of this project:
“This expansion is about much more than faster internet—it represents Kanokla’s commitment to building a more connected and resilient rural Kansas. We’re deeply grateful to the Kansas Office of Broadband Development for their belief in our vision and are excited to see the ways this project will enhance lives and businesses in our communities.”
Kanokla remains dedicated to improving the lives of our customers and the communities we serve. This fiber expansion is just one step in our ongoing mission to bring cutting-edge connectivity and greater opportunities to rural Kansas and beyond.
