Kick-off Wellington’s 150th birthday with a block-long ‘chalk-art’ party

Sumner Newscow report — Kick-off the celebration of Wellington’s 15oth birthday, the Wellington community is invited to a block-long “chalk-art” party in front of Memorial Auditorium, 208 North Washington Avenue, this Saturday, June 5.

Sponsored by the 15oth Committee and the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce, the community-wide event will include free street chalk, Birthday cupcakes, water and visits with local Fire and Police as their time allows.

Free cupcakes will be provided and served by the City of Wellington staff and each cupcake will feature a small representation of the new Wellington City Flag.

“The City staff is excited to join in this Sesquicentennial event and we are looking forward to seeing the community’s creative spirit on display.” said Shane Shields, Wellington City Manager.

Buckets of brightly colored street chalk, provided by the Wellington Young Professionals, will be on-hand for kids to illustrate their favorite birthday cake designs, balloon shapes and “Happy Birthday” messages.

Several food trucks will serve their unique wares. Taters & Toppings, Devour and Kona Ice will be located adjacent to Heritage Park.

“This will be a great occasion to venture downtown and visit some of our newly opened shops,” said Valerie Earl, Executive Director, Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce. “If the weather adversely impacts our outdoor plans, we will simply move the art creation inside Memorial Auditorium.”
