Leland Hurst

Leland D. Hurst, Sr., of Arkansas City, died on December 24, 2020, in Wichita at the age of 68. He was born to Wanda (Branch) and Keith Hurst on April 26, 1952, in Arkansas City. Leland proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. On April 12, 1996, Leland and Trudy Crittenden were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Wellington.

Together they enjoyed 24 years of marriage. He was a retired Equipment Operator that was employed in the local meat processing industry for many years. Following retirement, he enjoyed working at the family pecan farm and spending his time hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Hurst of Arkansas City; daughter, Anita Hurst (James Brew) of Arkansas City; son, Doug Hurst (Jennifer) of Arkansas City and their mother, Connie Hurst of Arkansas City; daughter, Cheryl Lancaster (James) of Goddard; daughter, Jami Cardwell (Randall) of Coffeyville; a daughter at heart, Bonnie Logan (Cory) of Arkansas City, 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Teresa Langley (Terry) of Vinita, Oklahoma; brother, Terry Hurst (Sandy) of Hampton, Virginia; step-mother, Royce Hurst of Vinita, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, an infant brother, Keith Hurst and brother, Loren Hurst.

A celebration of Leland’s life will be held in the Spring of 2021. Following cremation, a private burial will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Winfield.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to the Wounded Warrior Project. Donations can be made directly or sent to the funeral home.
