Library offers free gift-wrapping station to community
by Amber Countryman, Sumner Newscow — The COVID-19 health pandemic has wreaked havoc on everyone’s lives, making 2020 a very difficult year. Times are tough for everyone and money is tight.
The Wellington Public Library is again offering a free gift-wrapping station to the community. This is the fourth year they have provided this free community service.
“Libraries everywhere are working hard to provide services to patrons in a safe manner during Covid,” said Wellington Public Library Director Jo Plumb. “I think our free gift-wrapping station this year could be just what families need. No matter what your Christmas budget is, our gift-wrapping station offers you the opportunity to wrap your gifts without the added expense.”
In years past, Dillons has generously donated gift-wrapping supplies left over after Christmas. This helps continue to make this free community service successful.
Appointments aren’t required but are recommended. To maintain proper social distancing, two people will be able to wrap gifts at one time while remaining six feet apart. Masks are required to be worn. Please visit the library’s “sanitation station” for disposable face masks and hand sanitizer. Tables will be disinfected between patrons to help protect everyone.
“I think Covid has added stress to everyone’s life in different ways, so, pretty bows and fancy gift tags might be the boost to a struggling parent’s day,” Plumb said.
Choose your wrapping paper, bows, and tags! Be creative! All materials are provided, free of charge. There is no limit on how many gifts you can bring to wrap.
The library is also offering free crafts to take home and bring back to help decorate for Christmas. You can choose a mini beanie, gingerbread man, and ornaments to make. Pick up a winter reading log while you’re there, and earn a prize when you have read five books.
The library’s current business hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays. To schedule an appointment, call 326-2011.
