Lori Ann Phelps, 56, Wellington: Aug. 2, 1969 – July 16, 2026
Lori Ann Phelps died on Thursday, July 16, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Wellington. She was 56 years old. Born on August 2, 1969, to Bob and Judy (Cole) Goodrum, Lori remained rooted in her hometown and invested much of herself into others. With a spirit that was equal parts adventurous, determined, and courageous, Lori lived a life that left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Lori was a rarity in that she loved others and made it so easy to love her back.
Lori’s adventurous spirit shone brightly in her hobbies. Whether cheering on her children, nieces, and nephews at their sporting events, grooving to music at concerts, or getting lost in the beauty of nature during her travels or on a Sunday drive, Lori embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm.
Her love for the KU Jayhawks was well known. She was a passionate sports enthusiast, excelling in basketball and track, and her spirit of competition and drive resonated through all of life’s challenges sent her way. Lori looked forward to the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival each year with great anticipation. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado held a special place in her heart, and she loved capturing its beauty through her photography.
Her love of nature was evident close to home as she often grew flowers at her home for her family and friends to enjoy. Lori’s love for her family, her community, and her career as an educational transition coordinator for over 32 years showcased her commitment to fostering growth and change. As a devoted employee at USD 353, she was a cornerstone of the community and cherished every moment spent developing the young minds of Wellington. Lori’s most cherished role was that of a grandmother, a role she embraced with all her heart.
Surviving Lori is her loving husband, Rick Phelps, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of marriage with since June 29, 1996. Additionally, she is survived by her beloved children: daughter, Courtney Goodrum (Laramie) of Kansas City, Missouri, Connor Phelps (Cajen) of Wichita, and Cade Phelps of Alva, Oklahoma; her mother, Judy Goodrum of Wellington; granddaughter, Collins Phelps of Wichita; sister, Amy Mott (Billy) of Wellington; brother, Brian Goodrum of Wellington; her granddogs, Whitley and Phog, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
