Margaret Louise (Britton) Agee, 95, of Belle Plaine, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Margaret was born on April 11, 1931, in Wellington, to Vernon Leon and Lucille (Hatton) Britton.

She graduated from Wellington High School in May 1949 and was in the top 10% of her class. Margaret was baptized on her 10th birthday, April 11, 1941, at the 1st Christian Church of Wellington. Margaret married Merritt Leroy Agee on October 11, 1953, in that same church and they had four children: Marilyn Louise, Miles Leroy, Marie Lucille and Merritt Laurens.

Margaret was a member of the United Christian Church in Wichita for many years before transferring to the Global Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, and she served as Church Treasurer until resigning in 2014. From 1972 to 1976 she and Merritt owned “The Dragon” Recreation Center in Belle Plaine, a popular hang-out for the town’s young people. In 1976 she became the City Clerk of Belle Plaine, receiving her Certification in 1980. She retired as Clerk in 1994, then served as City Treasurer from 1995 to 2013.

Margaret was also a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, initiated into Constellation Chapter #476, Wichita, in 1969. She transferred to Belle Plaine Chapter #125 in 1970, then to Haysville Chapter #494 in 1999. She served as Worthy Matron in both Belle Plaine and Haysville, and also served as Grand Representative to Australia for two years.

Active with the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Margaret was a Mother Advisor and Advisory Board Member with Belle Plaine Rainbow Assembly #75 and Mulvane/Haysville Sunshine Rainbow Assembly #68. She was selected as Kansas State Mother Advisor for 2003-2004 and was a Master of the Grand Cross of Color.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia; husband, Merritt; and youngest son, Merritt L.

Survivors include her oldest daughter, Marilyn Agee/Whitney of the home; son, Miles and wife Mary of Missouri; daughter, Marie Agee/Walker of Wichita; son-in-law, Billy Walker; daughter-in-law, Anne Agee and step-daughter Sheryl Whitney; Grandchildren: Richard (Wendy) Whitney, Rachael (Daniel) Edwards, Michelle Taylor, Daniel (Sila) Agee, Jason Walker, Jessica (Sean) Meyers, and Eric (Ashley) Agee. Great-grandchildren: Christopher, Krystal, Kirstin, Devon, Ethan, Nathan, Lillian, Kylee, Jaxson, Everly, Damien, Alex, Caleb, Josh, and Leyton. Along with several cousins, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Belle Plaine Global Methodist Church, located at 124 E. 10th Ave. Belle Plaine, Kansas, 67013. Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Belle Plaine Global Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, Kansas. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
