Oxford football team ends season with a big win over West Elk 86-40

Sumner Newscow report — Here is a score for you: Oxford 86 West Elk 40. That is 126 points. Not sure what the record books say about the number of points scored, but it has to be up there near the top.

This was a game made in the new Kansas State High School Activities Association playoff system that pits teams that did not make the playoffs against one another so that it can complete a nine-game schedule.

It worked out great for the Wildcats, as they got their first win of the year. The two teams were tied 22-22 at the end of the first quarter, but Oxford outscored the Patriots 16-6 in the second quarter and led 38-28 at the half. Oxford would then get on a roll in the third and outscore West Elk 28-6. They added to their total with a 20-6 output in the fourth.

With the win, Oxford finishes 1-8 for the season.
