Peggy Wallace, 88, formerly of Wellington: Feb. 9, 1934 – Aug. 7, 2022
Peggy Wallace, formerly of Wellington, died peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at her home in Overland Park at the age of 88.
She was born the daughter of Andrew and Irene (Dwyer) Lowen on February 9, 1934, in Cimarron. The family later relocated to Wellington and Peggy graduated from Wellington High School in 1952. While in high school, she met the love of her life, and on September 27, 1953, she and Floyd LaVern Wallace were united in marriage in Wellington. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Following her husband’s military service, the couple returned to Wellington and started a family in April of 1962 when their son, Troy, was born.
Peggy worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the First National Bank in Wellington and retired after 20 years of service. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Wellington where she and her husband were actively involved.
During their early retirement years, Peggy and Lavern enjoyed traveling and visiting new places. Each time they traveled, they would meet new friends from other states, several of whom kept in touch throughout the years. Peggy was an avid collector of teddy bears and figurines. She enjoyed outings with her friends and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She also enjoyed visits from her nieces and nephews. She was known to make an occasional trip to Oklahoma to do a little bit of gambling with her sister, Barbara.
Survivors include her son, Troy Wallace and his wife Jenny of Overland Park, grandchildren: Hannah Stevenson and husband Nathan of Ogden, Utah, T.J. Wallace and wife Katie of Kansas City, Missouri, Andrew Wallace and wife Liz of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary Cox and husband Sam of Overland Park, Joe Wallace of Anchorage, Alaska, Charlie Wallace of Overland Park, Peter Wallace of Overland Park and Bernadette Wallace of Overland Park; 8 great-grandchildren and her sister, Barbara Lange of Wichita along with numerous niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and six siblings.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington.
A memorial fund has been established in her name with the First Baptist Church of Wellington. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
