Police chase ends with arrest of Argonia woman Tuesday evening
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Some people take late night strolls. Others just sit on the porch and look at the stars. For Amber N. Mays, 34, of Argonia her late night activity was getting into a police chase.
Mays was arrested, charged and confined after a 15-20 minute police chase that started in Wellington and ended at 40th St. and S. Ridge Road, southwest of Wellington.
According to a Wellington police report, at around 10:30 p.m., yesterday evening, Mays was driving a 2018 Kia Forte, westbound on U.S. 160 passed the Dillon’s Grocery Store when Wellington police officers stopped her for driving without her headlights operating.
She originally was stopped but gave the police officer a false identity. When the officers did a background check and discovered she was not telling the truth, she put on the gas and sped out of town.
Mays would drive west and then eventually south until her car was disabled due to the poor condition of the road. She was subsequently booked without incident.
May has been arrested with fleeing or attempting to elude, interference with law enforcement, possession of stimulant, possession of marijuana, driving while license suspended, ignition interlock required, possession of paraphernalia, speeding, disobey traffic signal, driving without headlights when required, Harper County bench warrant for probation violation and a Cooke County Texas warrant for failure to appear.
