by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Wellington High School tennis players Rylee Rusk, Kylie Aufdengarten, Calli Hatfield and Jacelyn Buck have been named Big Cheese Athletes of the week.

The four girls became the second WHS team in history to place at state by finishing third in the Class 4A State Tournament in Topeka. Rusk/Aufdengarten would place second in doubles competition losing only to a Collegiate duo in the state finals. Hatfield/Buck placed ninth and received a medal, losing just twice for the day against finalists. With just two entries in the state tournament, Wellington was able to stave off all but Wichita Collegiate and Topeka Hayden and win a tiebreaker with Independence to capture the third place crown.

For their efforts, the four girls will each receive a large FREE delicious pizza from Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington in Wellington.
