Stephen Smith

Stephen Lee Smith, 53, of Mayfield, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

Stephen was born the son of Dennis and Linda (Pooler) Smith on December 2, 1969, in Wellington.

Stephen was known for having a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. He loved his family and would do anything for them. Stephen enjoyed spending time with family but especially his grandson. They enjoyed riding the four-wheeler and working on cars together. Stephen loved dogs and has had many with whom his grandson feels he’s at peace now.

Survivors include daughters: Larissa Booth, Lynna Herring, Leanna Herring; grandson, Ivan Booth; sister, Gena Smith; mother, Linda Smith; grandmother, Leatice Smith along with multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Pauline Pooler, Lee Otis Pooler, and Stephen Smith; father: Dennis Smith; aunts, Glenda Lick and Ivy Morgan; uncles: Joe Smith, Mike Smith, and Steve Farley and cousins, Teresa Smith and Jeffrey Pooler.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Stephen will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2023, in the chapel of Cornejo Funeral Home, Wellington. Following services, cremation will take place, and a private interment will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established in his loving memory with the Wellington Humane Society.  Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
