Sumner County volleyball teams all get eliminated in sub-state tourneys
Sumner Newscow report — The volleyball seasons ended for all Sumner County teams after the sub-state competition held Saturday afternoon.
•Wellington went 1-1 in the Class 4A sub-state tournament in McPherson.
Wellington, a No. 15 seed in the Class 4A-West, defeated Buhler in the play-in-round game, winning 25-23, 25-15.
The Crusaders then battled No. 2 McPherson and lost 25-13, 25-19. McPherson would go on to win the sub-state championship with a 25-22, 25-18 win over Abilene. Wellington finished the year at 7-17.

Belle Plaine and Conway Springs were eliminated in the Flinthills sub-state in the first and second rounds.
The Dragons (23-14) defeated Leon Bluestem 25-15, 25-12. That set up the showdown with Garden Plain, the eventual sub-state champion. It would lose 25-8, 25-16 in the second round.
Conway Springs (5-25) lost to Garden Plain in the first round 25-18, 25-12.

Oxford (12-19) was eliminated from the Norwich sub-state in the second round. Oxford defeated Wichita Classical School 22-25, 25-19, 25-16. In the second round, Pretty Prairie defeated Oxford 25-11, 25-11. Pretty Prairie went on to win the sub-state championship over Norwich.

Argonia hosted a sub-state that included South Haven and Caldwell. Unfortunately, none of them advanced past the second round.
Argonia (25-7), the No. 2 seed going in, lost to Hutchinson Central Christian 27-25, 25-20. HCC would go on to win the sub-state over Attica.
Elsewhere, South Haven (12-19) would beat Wichita Central Christian 26-24, 25-14 before losing to Attica 25-17, 25-16. Caldwell (1-29) fell to HCC 25-6, 25-2 in the first round.
