Submitted to Sumner Newscow —  Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative, Inc. is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2014 scholarships, 21 promising students from the Cooperative’s service area.

SCEC, Members Helping Members and the Employee Club are proud to provide scholarship aid to children of members whose determination and persistence in and out of the classroom embody the values and spirit of the Cooperative.

“Our scholarship program is one way Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative invests in our future by helping the youth in our communities achieve their academic goals,” said Cletas Rains, Chief Executive Officer at Sumner-Cowley Electric. “The program is funded entirely through contributions from our employees, board of directors and our members ensuring the youth in our communities have the opportunity to succeed in life and hopefully return to our area to contribute to the future of our communities.”

Scholarships totaling $11,500 were awarded to applicants from Sumner, Cowley, Kingman and Sedgwick counties this year. Since 2011, SCEC has awarded more than $29,000 in scholarships to children of Cooperative members to enrich our local communities and to help foster the educational spirit.
