Susan Spoon, 63, Oxford: Feb. 17, 1954 – July 11, 2017

Susan Spoon, 63, of Oxford, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Derby Health and Rehab in Derby.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m.,  Saturday, July 15 at the Oxford First Christian Church. Memorials have been established with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund and Assisted Technology for the Visually Impaired Students at the Derby School USD 260. Susan Marie Spoon was born February 17, 1954, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Leach) Johnson in O’Neill, Neb. She graduated from Cap Rock High School in Amarillo, TX. She graduated from Newman University and received her Masters of Special Education from Emporia State.

On July 30, 1977 Susan was united in marriage to Robert Spoon. Susan loved her students and taught in Wellington, Belle Plaine and later in Derby. Her Grandson was the joy of her life. She was on the Oxford School Board for a number of years and President 8 of those years. Susan was also a member of the Oxford Church of Christ and served as 4-H community leader of Walnut Valley.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Robert of the home; daughter, Kaly Spoon of Oxford; son, Daniel Spoon and his wife Stephanie of Oxford; grandson, Grayson Drake of Oxford; brothers: Gary Johnson and his wife Susan of Winfield and Larry Johnson and his wife Linda of Winfield; sister-in-law, Janet Donely and husband Jim of Oxford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
