The Fourth of July public display throughout Sumner County and when you can shoot off fireworks
By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Here is a list of the Fourth of July public displays— i.e., shows— in Sumner County this week for the communities of Wellington, Caldwell, Belle Plaine and Conway Springs.
WELLINGTON
Annual public display—Rainbow Fireworks, Inc.’s fireworks display will occur at dusk at Hargis Creek Watershed around 9 p.m. The map below shows where you can safely watch the display. The red area is prohibited, but the green area is where you can safely watch.
Fireworks shooting hours: Discharge dates and hours are July 1 – 3, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and July 4, 10 a.m. to midnight. Sales dates and hours are July 1 through July 4, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fireworks details are here.

CALDWELL
Annual public display: There will be a public Fourth of July display on Thursday around sunset at Caldwell Athletic Complex, 305 W. First Ave., aka the high school football field.
Fireworks shooting hours: Fireworks can be shot legally from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to midnight on Thursday.
OXFORD
Annual public display: Oxford will be holding its show on July 4 on the community’s west side at Nappawalla Park. To get there, turn off U.S. 160 on Iowa St. and turn right at Clark St.
Fireworks shooting hours: People can legally shoot fireworks from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through the Fourth of July.
BELLE PLAINE
Annual public display: Belle Plaine will have a huge Independence Day celebration on Thursday at 5 p.m. There will be burgers and dogs, ice cream, pie, popcorn and snow cones; games of chance and games of no-skill whatsoever. And, of course, don’t forget the best bad Dad jokes. The festivities are at Morley Field just north of the Belle Plaine’s Casey’s.
Fireworks shooting hours: Belle Plaine residents have been able to discharge fireworks since June 27. The hours will run through July 3 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to midnight on July 4.
CONWAY SPRINGS
Annual public display: There will be no public display.
Fireworks shooting hours: People in Conway Springs can shoot fireworks from July 1 to 4, 8 a.m. to midnight.
