Sumner Newscow report — Tommy Rains, 59 of Wellington, has been arrested for two counts of aggravated sexual battery. He was working as a teacher at the Levy Special Education Center in Sedgwick County before the arrest.

Sedgwick County District attorney Marc Bennett confirmed the arrest to Channel 12, KWCH-TV. In the report, Bennett said Rains allegedly had sexual contact with someone who is incapable of consent due to mental deficiency. Rains was held in Sumner County Detention Center on a Sedgwick County arrest warrant on Dec. 29 by the sheriff’s office. He then posted bond and was released.

Susan Arnesman with Wichita Public Schools says he has been placed on administrative leave. She says the district is cooperating with law enforcement during this investigation.

His preliminary hearing is set for January 17.
