Two accidents on Kansas Turnpike in Sumner County results in injuries

Sumner Newscow report — There were two accidents on the Kansas Turnpike due to yesterday’s snowstorm.

The first involved a 76-year-old man who suffered critical injuries after being ejected from his vehicle in a crash in Sumner County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, at around 1:33 p.m. Wednesday, the driver of a Mazda pickup lost control of his vehicle on the snow-packed roadway on the I-35 entrance ramp at Exit 33, east of Wellington.

The Mazda hit a semi-truck causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.

The driver of the Mazda, who is from Mocksville, North Carolina, was ejected from the vehicle and the rear axle landed on this chest. He was taken to a Wichita hospital with critical injuries.

The semi-truck came to rest in a field. The driver was not hurt.

The second vehicle accident occurred on I-35 in the northbound lane in which a driver lost control and struck the barrier wall between the two roads of traffic.

Macy Reanne Elliott, 20, of Abilene was taken to a Wichita hospital after receiving minor injuries at 3:02 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
