US-81 grading and surfacing project in Wellington to begin.
Sumner Newscow report — Starting the week of July 17, the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin construction of a 1 mile grading and surfacing project on US-81 Highway in Sumner County, beginning on US-81/Harvey Avenue Intersection to US-81/Botkin Street Intersection.
Traffic through this work zone will be directed by a local detour via Jefferson Avenue and Botkin Street. With both lanes being affected by the road closure, drivers can expect delays of less than 15 minutes. This reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed in October, depending on delays caused by adverse weather conditions.
Cornejo & Sons LLC, from Wichita, Kansas is the prime contractor for this $1,310,000 project, which is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature.
