By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Big Cheese Athletes of the Week is the 200-meter Wellington relay team consisting of Caroline Mott, Georgia Shinliver, Abby Ybarra and Sophie Cornejo.

These four girls swam a 1:52.83 200 at the 2026 AV-CTL Division III-IV Championship Meet in Hutchinson on Friday, good enough for first place. That was a stunning 3.31-second improvement from their previous best time and qualified them for the Class 5-1A State tournament in Lenexa starting today and running through Saturday.

Their time helped Wellington finish fourth overall in the 11-team meet.

For their effort, each girls is a recipient of a large, delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 234 N. Washington in Wellington.
