Wellington boys tennis team finishes 3rd in highly-competitive Circle Tournament
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington boys team traveled to Circle Wednesday and finished third in a very competitive tournament.
Independence placed first with 54 and Wichita Classical placed second at 53. Wellington was a close third at 52. Other scores include: Parsons 41, El Dorado 36, Collegiate 23, Circle 15, Augusta 6.
In No. 1 singles, Jax Cornejo placed fourth going 1-2 for the day. He would beat Hayden Greene of El Dorado 8-2 before losing to Zach Spriggs of Parsons 8-4 and Sam Grice of Independence 8-6.
In No. 1 doubles, Kade Adams and Carson Rademacher finished second. The duo lost to Stoner/Bertie of Independence 8-3 in the championship. They won the first two matches to Bleich/Bleich of Circle 8-1, and Chouinard/Bull of Classical 8-5.
In No. 2 singles, Hunter Worley placed third. He would beat Dylan Foes of Circle 8-1, lost to Cushing of Independence 8-7 (12-10) and defeated Smith-Reece of Parsons.
In No. 2 doubles, Justin Norris and Jack Wright finished second. They defeated a duo from Parsons 8-4, a duo from Collegiate before losing to Branan/Graham of Wichita Classical in the championship 8-2.
The WHS varsity team travels to Augusta on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The tournament starts at 3 p.m.
