Wellington High School boys golf team win fifth straight AV-CTL DIV Championship
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington High School boys golf team secured its fifth straight Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division 4 League championship Tuesday at El Dorado golf course.
Wellington finished first with 350 team points. Andale and Wichita Collegiate tied for second with a 356. Rose Hill finished fourth at 418 and Clearwater at 439.
Individually, Wellington’s Owen Farley placed second with an 85 and became first-team all-AVCTL DIV.
Ethan Brungardt finished third, also shooting an 85 (losing the tiebreaker). He, too, became a first-team all-leaguer.
Derek Rausch placed sixth with an 88 and became a first-team all-AV-CTL DIV.
Colten Clift placed 11th with a 92 and second-team all-league.
Other shooters were: Easton Newberry with 101 and Marcus Provost with 118. The full results of the tournament are here.
“I was very proud of our young men today as each fought through some personal adversity on the course,” said Wellington head boys golf coach James Ginter. “This young group continues a tradition by claiming the AV-CTL Championship.”
Wellington will now participate in the Class 4A Regional at Ulysses. Teams participating include Clearwater, Hugoton, Mulvane, Pratt, Rose Hill, Ulysses, Wellington and Winfield.
