Wellington school district provides attendance rules for upcoming activities
Sumner Newscow report — The following is information provided by the Wellington High School and Middle School administration concerning the Kansas State High School Activities Association activities.
———
“KSHSAA activities will allow for attendance of up to two parents/guardians per participant(s) family as allowed by the local board of education or health department restrictions.
Participants considered could/may include players, coaches, student managers, cheer squads, dance teams, pep bands, and student journalists.
•Admission will be $6 per parent/guardian and the name must be on the spectator list provided by home and visiting school.
•Identification may be required for entry.
•Siblings or children/infants are not allowed to attend.
•A face covering is required for all in attendance and at all times.
•The face-covering should be worn in the manner it is intended to be worn- covering the mouth and nose.
•The only exception is provided for athletes during the time they are competing and for officials during active play.
•Social distancing is to be practiced at all times.
•Parents/guardians will not be allowed on the court/mat or in locker rooms.
•Parents/guardians attending basketball games should arrive just prior to the start of their child’s game. We ask that you leave the facility at the completion of your child’s game.
•Certain events may be more restrictive to parent/guardian attendance such as tournaments and invitationals.
Other considerations to be determined by host school:
•Not starting games until the posted time – this would help assure parents they can arrive “just prior to their child’s game”, this would also assure non-attendees that the game will not start prior for the live stream.
•Marking off the front row – no spectators are allowed to sit in the front row. This gives more separation between the players/officials and spectators. Officials spend a significant amount of time along the sideline during play and during dead ball situations.
•Parents will not be allowed to leave the venue and return.
•Parents will be allowed to attend their child’s event and are asked to leave at the conclusion of their student’s event.
•No concessions or outside food or drinks allowed in the gym or auditorium.
•Proper mask covering of nose and mouth and social distancing required.
WHS/WMS Parents
The KSHSAA Board of Directors met Tuesday afternoon to reconsider an earlier decision that prohibited spectator attendance at KSHSAA events through January 28. A motion was made and passed 54-24 in favor of the following:
“Effective Thursday, December 10 through January 28, 2021, interscholastic activities will allow for attendance of up to two parents/guardians per participant(s) family as allowed by local board of education or health department restrictions.”
This does not allow for children or any other person that does not fulfill the role of a parent/guardian to attend the game(s). Furthermore, a parent/guardian who has multiple children participating is only allowed “up to two” tickets total and not two tickets per individual participant.
Wellington schools plan to allow fans at events when possible in accordance with this policy. For further clarification, participants will include players, coaches, managers, spirit squads, pep band, and student journalists. Staff necessary to provide for the administration of an event will continue to be allowed to attend as approved by district administration.
Based on the information on record in Infinite Campus, a list of parents/guardians will be generated and available at the admission gate of all home games. The “student participant” will indicate from the generated list who will be attending on their behalf. Parents/guardians will be able to enter the gym in which their child is an active participant. Paid admission does not allow for attendance at every game unless that person has a child actively participating.
There is no ability to trade or share your rights to attend. When a fan leaves the event, there will not be an opportunity to re-enter. Admission will be charged for high school events at the rate of $6 per person. Admission will be charged for Middle School events at the rate of $4 per person.
Fan limitations and admission procedures can vary by event, ie: multi-team events/tournaments would not allow fans as two team events could allow 1 or 2 parents to attend. Fan limitations and admission procedures will be determined by the host school and not every road game will be the same. Details for admission to road games will be communicated prior to those games. Parents may be required to present a photo ID to verify their names on the attendance roster.
We are thankful our student participants get to be involved in activities and receive support from their parents at our events. We are also glad our parents are able to experience their children’s events in person when possible. For those in attendance, temperature checks will be required at the door, masks will be required at all times, and social distancing is a must. For those not able to attend we will continue to provide online options to watch the events.
Nothing about our current situation is easy or desirable, but our kids are worth the efforts of everyone. Thank you for your unwavering support of Wellington students and Wellington schools.”
Thank you
WHS/WMS administration
