Georgia Gulick wins the home Wellington Invitational. 

By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow – The Wellington girls golf team dominated its home invite that was cut from 18 to nine holes because of the intense heat.

With temperatures back in 95-plus territory, Wellington dominated the competition with a team score of 174, beating second-place McPherson at 202. The other team results were: Rose Hill 219, Andale 223, Wellington A 223, and Buhler 223. Winfield did not have enough players for a team score.

Four Wellington girls finish in the top five.

The Crusaders also had four of the top five golfers and six of the top eight individually.

Wellington golfer Georgia Gulick won the tournament with a 40, for five over par. She defeated Hannah Reeves of Rose Hill with a 41.

The Crusaders then had the next three golfers. Kaselynn Carroll shot a 43, Brittin Lawrence shot a 44, and Raynee Miller shot a 47 for fifth place. Those four scores constituted the team score.

Bella Angleton and Harper Ginter both shot 49s.

Bella Angleton shot a 49 on Monday.

Other Wellington scores were:

Ava Bales, 53 (+18), tied 13th;

Gabi Angleton, 55 (+20), tied 17th;

Allie Meeker, 59 (+24), tied 25th;

Harper Seeliger, 60 (+25), tied 27th

Raynee Miller on hole #1.

“It was a dominant day for the Lady Crusaders on their home course, winning every category: team championship, individual champion and a tremendous amount of top-of-the-leadership representation,” said Vanessa Sawyer, co-Wellington head coach.
